Waze Adds World of Warcraft's Xal’atath as Navigator
- •Waze introduces World of Warcraft character Xal’atath as a new voice navigation option
- •Driving experience includes themed Void and Light moods and a custom Dragonhawk vehicle
- •Global release supports English, Spanish, and German using authentic in-game character voices
Google’s navigation app Waze is leaning into gaming culture once again through a high-profile collaboration with Blizzard’s World of Warcraft. Following the previous inclusion of the heroic Thrall, the app now features Xal’atath, the Harbinger of the Void, as a voice navigator. This update marks a shift from traditional helpful guidance to a more character-driven experience where the navigator provides cryptic instructions and biting commentary to users during their commute.
Users can fully immerse themselves in the Warcraft universe by selecting themed Void or Light moods that change their appearance on the live map. Additionally, the standard car icon can be swapped for a Dragonhawk vehicle, allowing users to take flight digitally on their routes. This localized experience is rolling out globally, utilizing the actual in-game voice acting to maintain authenticity for the franchise's massive and dedicated fan base.
The integration highlights a growing trend of utilizing recognizable intellectual property to personalize utility-focused software. By transforming a mundane task like driving into a gamified narrative journey, Waze continues to differentiate its user experience from more traditional mapping competitors. The feature is currently available for activation within the latest version of the Waze mobile application.
