SK Hynix Honored for AI Memory Innovation
- •SK Hynix earns two government awards, including the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, for leading the AI memory market.
- •President Song Hyun-jong recognized for HBM3E supply expansion and strategic management innovation.
- •Team Leader Park Chang-ki acknowledged for breakthroughs in next-generation NAND development and eco-friendly manufacturing.
SK Hynix, a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing, has been awarded dual honors at the 53rd Commerce and Industry Day for its significant contributions to technological innovation and industrial competitiveness. President Song Hyun-jong, who spearheads global operations, received the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, while Team Leader Park Chang-ki, a key technical lead, was awarded a commendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy.
These accolades highlight the company's pivotal role in the development of High Bandwidth Memory (HBM). HBM is a specialized memory architecture that vertically stacks multiple DRAM layers to drastically increase data processing speeds. As generative AI models require massive computational power, HBM has become an essential component in overcoming the performance bottlenecks that often slow down modern AI training and inference.
President Song has been instrumental in securing the company’s leadership in the AI ecosystem by ensuring the timely supply of next-generation products, such as HBM3E, and capturing a significant 60% market share. Simultaneously, Team Leader Park has driven manufacturing efficiency by advancing precision etching technology, which enabled the successful development of 321-layer NAND. These achievements underscore the growing influence of the South Korean semiconductor industry within the global infrastructure supporting the AI revolution.
