- •Partnership on AI launches Labor and Economy Steering Committee with global experts
- •New initiative provides policy recommendations for equitable economic outcomes in the AI era
- •Committee includes representatives from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and the World Bank
The Partnership on AI (PAI) has officially convened its Labor and Economy Steering Committee, a multi-disciplinary group tasked with navigating the complex intersection of artificial intelligence and global labor markets. This initiative, titled "Shaping Economic Futures in the AI Era," aims to provide concrete, actionable recommendations for policymakers and industry leaders. By gathering perspectives from academia, civil society, and the private sector, PAI seeks to ensure that the benefits of technological advancement are distributed equitably across the workforce.
The committee boasts a diverse roster of inaugural members, including representatives from major AI labs like Google DeepMind, OpenAI, and Anthropic, alongside leaders from the World Bank and the AFL-CIO Tech Institute. This collaborative approach is designed to tackle the growing uncertainty regarding how AI adoption will shift income levels and job quality. Leveraging scenario analysis tools, the group will help stakeholders distinguish between temporary market noise and long-term structural shifts in the economy.
This program builds on PAI’s 2023 "Guidelines for AI and Shared Prosperity," which influenced U.S. Department of Labor principles. As the timeline for AI diffusion accelerates, the steering committee’s work becomes critical in identifying the "north star" for ethical deployment. The project emphasizes the importance of worker-led development, ensuring that innovation serves to reduce global inequality rather than exacerbate it.
