Microsoft Transforms SharePoint into AI Knowledge Hub
- •SharePoint becomes primary grounding source for Microsoft 365 Copilot and enterprise intelligence
- •New agentic experiences enable users to build complex business solutions using natural language intent
- •Custom AI skills allow organizations to embed unique terminology and governance into AI workflows
Microsoft’s SharePoint is celebrating its 25th anniversary by evolving from a static document repository into a dynamic engine for enterprise intelligence. Serving over one billion users, the platform now acts as the primary grounding source for Microsoft 365 Copilot. By feeding organizational data into "Work IQ"—the intelligence layer behind Microsoft’s AI—SharePoint ensures that automated assistants understand specific company contexts, roles, and historical data rather than relying on generic information.
This evolution introduces agentic experiences that shift from manual configuration to intent-based creation. Instead of requiring deep technical expertise, teams can describe a business need—such as a procurement repository—in natural language. SharePoint then collaboratively builds these solutions, allowing non-technical staff to deploy sophisticated tools that remain governed within the corporate ecosystem.
To ensure accuracy, Microsoft is launching custom AI skills. These are specialized packages of organizational knowledge, including unique terminology and business logic. By applying these skills, AI agents can perform complex tasks, such as reviewing legal documents, while strictly adhering to internal policies. This transition marks a move from passive storage to active knowledge utilization, where AI proactively surfaces relevant insights exactly when needed.
