- •Program yields 500,000 certificates since 2022, boosting Kazakhstan to 37th in global skill proficiency.
Kazakhstan is doubling down on its commitment to a future-proofed workforce by renewing its strategic partnership with Coursera. The initiative aims to bake AI literacy directly into the country’s higher education system, ensuring that graduates possess the "deepskilling" required to navigate a labor market radically transformed by automation. This collaboration isn't just about providing access to instructional videos. Instead, it focuses on institutionalizing for-credit learning and verified industry skills across 95 national universities.
The core of this effort is the AI-Sana initiative, which mandates a foundational understanding of Generative AI and digital ethics for every graduate. To lower the barrier to entry, over 4,000 courses in critical subjects like data science have been translated into the Kazakh language. By utilizing machine-driven translations, the Ministry has rapidly scaled its content library, allowing students to earn European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits that count toward their formal degrees.
The results are striking. Since 2022, more than 235,000 students have earned over half a million certificates, helping Kazakhstan climb to 37th globally in skill proficiency. This model highlights a growing global trend where governments act as bridge-builders between technology providers and academic institutions to solve the training gap. By integrating content from industry leaders, Kazakhstan is creating a scalable blueprint for national digital transformation.
