The Houston Independent School District (HISD) is launching a transformative pedagogical model by converting two elementary campuses into "Future 2 Schools." This initiative, championed by Superintendent Mike Miles, redesigns the K-8 experience to prioritize the cognitive and technical skills required in an economy increasingly defined by artificial intelligence. While the youngest learners in grades K-2 will focus on foundational literacy, the core AI curriculum officially begins in the third and fourth grades.
For students in grades five and six, the instructional model shifts toward specialized, semester-long courses. These modules cover AI tool proficiency, design-thinking, and cultural studies, aiming to produce graduates capable of navigating complex automated environments.
