Headway Acquires Tezi Team to Enhance AI Mental Health Platform
- •Headway acquires Tezi engineering team to integrate AI into mental health provider infrastructure
- •Former Google and Microsoft engineer Raghavendra Prabhu joins as Vice President of Engineering
- •Acquisition focuses on reducing administrative friction through AI-assisted clinical notes and documentation tools
Mental health platform Headway has finalized the acquisition of the team behind Tezi, an artificial intelligence startup, marking a significant push into AI-integrated behavioral healthcare. The strategic acquisition aims to embed specialized engineering talent directly into Headway’s core development cycles, focusing on reducing the administrative burdens that often hinder patient care.
The move brings Raghavendra Prabhu, an engineering veteran with high-level experience at Google and Microsoft, into the organization as VP of Engineering. By leveraging the Tezi team's expertise in designing systems where humans and AI collaborate, Headway intends to modernize the infrastructure supporting its 70,000 providers. The primary objective is to move beyond simple data entry toward systems where AI assists clinicians with complex navigation, effectively allowing them more face-to-face time with patients.
This investment builds upon Headway’s existing AI suite, including features that generate clinical notes based on provider inputs. These tools utilize natural language processing—the ability of computers to understand and generate human text—to format documentation for insurance compliance automatically. By streamlining these "back-office" tasks, the company aims to solve chronic accessibility issues within the mental health system through smarter technical infrastructure.
