Google Debuts AI Professional Certificate for Small Businesses
- •Google launches AI Professional Certificate on Coursera focusing on practical generative AI skills for workers.
- •U.S. small businesses receive free program access and three months of Google AI Pro tools.
- •Hands-on curriculum includes building custom apps using multimodal AI tools like Gemini and NotebookLM.
Google is doubling down on workforce development by launching its first AI Professional Certificate on Coursera, a strategic move to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical workplace application. With nearly three million learners already engaging with the company’s generative AI content, this new seven-course program targets the majority of workers who have yet to integrate these tools into their daily routines.
The curriculum is notably hands-on, guiding students through the use of multimodal AI (systems that process multiple types of data like text and images), NotebookLM, and AI Studio. Unlike introductory courses, this certificate culminates in a capstone project where learners build custom AI-powered apps to automate specific tasks, creating a tangible portfolio of research plans and visual assets.
Recognizing the economic barrier for smaller entities, Google is providing the program at no cost to U.S. small businesses. This initiative includes access to Google Workspace and a three-month trial of Google AI Pro, ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is available alongside the education. By focusing on non-IT roles—where demand for these skills is growing fastest—the initiative aims to democratize the ability to synthesize data and create content through automated workflows.
