Anthropic Adds Remote Control to Claude Code
- •Anthropic launches remote access to local terminal sessions via mobile and web apps.
- •New scheduling features added to Cowork for automated task execution.
- •Current limitations require host machines to remain active for scheduled tasks to run.
Anthropic has expanded the utility of Claude Code by introducing a remote control feature that bridges the gap between local terminal environments and mobile accessibility. By initiating a session on a physical machine, developers can now issue prompts through the web interface or iOS app to execute commands remotely. This shift reflects a growing trend in developer tools where the power of a local development environment is no longer tethered to a specific desk, though early testers report some initial stability hurdles.
The current implementation requires manual approval for most actions, as the system does not yet bypass security permissions for remote interactions. This security-first approach ensures that the AI cannot run arbitrary code without oversight, but it does add friction to the user experience. Tech blogger Simon Willison noted that while the feature is currently prone to intermittent API errors and session timeouts, it positions the tool as a competitor to community-driven projects.
Simultaneously, the company revealed a scheduling feature for Cowork, a broader tool designed for general tasks. This allows users to set recurring workflows, though there is a significant catch: the host computer must remain awake and the application active for these tasks to trigger. These updates signal a push toward more persistent, autonomous systems that can manage complex software engineering tasks and general workflows across multiple devices.
